Did you know there is a specific way to measure a shirt other than Small, Medium and Large? Do you know the difference between a pique and a knit? These are just a few of the questions we come across and wanted to share the answers.
Different types of Knit Shirts
Pique Knit Polo shirts have a three-dimensional waffle look, also found in the marcella pique weave. Pique knit is not only flexible but also breathable, and, therefore, the most popular polo shirt knit. The scale of the waffle can differ tremendously, and different kind of knits are in existence. For more breathability, you want bigger holes, and for less weight, you want a smaller knit.
Jersey Knit Polo shirts have a smooth surface that is similar to a t-shirt. Often this knit is used for less expensive polo shirts but it can also be used for higher quality polo shirts. In terms of breathability, an open pique knit is superior to any Jersey knit.
How to measure a garment
If you aren't sure what size to order, lay a favorite shirt, shorts, sweatshirt or sweatpants flat and measure. Find which size on the "spec" or data table matches up to your measurements.
Shirt Width: Starting 1" below the armpits, measure across the width of the tshirt.
Shirt Length: Measure from where the shoulder and collar meet to the bottom hem.
Sleeve Length: Measure from the center of the back collar, along the edge to the hem of the shirt.
Pants Waist: Measure across the width of the waistband and multiply by 2. Alternatively, measure around the narrowest part of the person's waist keeping the measuring tape horizontal.
Pants Inseam: Measure from the very top of the inside leg to the bottom of the leg edge.
